This powerful documentary examines the origins, ideology and evolution of one of the most feared organizations of Nazi Germany. It explores how the SS (Schutzstaffel) transformed from a small protective unit into a vast and ruthless machine that played a central role in the Holocaust. Through detailed analysis and historical evidence, it reveals the distorted beliefs, calculated strategies and systematic brutality that defined its actions, offering a chilling insight into how ordinary structures were turned into instruments of terror on an unprecedented scale. In the first three episodes, the focus turns to the rise of the SS and the individuals who helped shape its power. It traces how recruits were selected and why the organization appealed to certain men, uncovering the mindset behind their commitment. The story delves into the figure of Heinrich Himmler, an unlikely leader whose vision and ambition drove the expansion of the SS, as well as Reinhard Heydrich, whose cold and methodical approach made him one of the key architects of the Holocaust. Together, these episodes reveal how leadership, ideology and personal ambition combined to fuel one of history’s darkest forces.
In the final three episodes of the series, the image of elite discipline surrounding the SS is stripped away to reveal a far darker and more disturbing reality. Behind the façade of military excellence lay poorly trained recruits driven not by honor, but by blind ideology and a complete absence of remorse. As their role expands from the battlefield to the brutal control of concentration camps, the narrative exposes how ordinary men became perpetrators of systematic violence, carrying out atrocities with chilling efficiency while maintaining the appearance of normal lives beyond their crimes. These episodes push further into the unsettling contrast between barbarity and everyday existence, showing how members of the SS could participate in unimaginable acts and then return to social settings as if nothing had happened. The story then draws a direct line to the present, confronting the uncomfortable truth that, despite overwhelming historical evidence, remnants of admiration and myth still persist in certain circles. It’s a gripping and unsettling conclusion that forces viewers to question how such distortion of memory can endure—and why it still matters today.
An extraordinary journey into the powerful natural forces that shape our planet, this visually stunning documentary series reveals how extreme weather, oceans, landscapes, and atmospheric phenomena combine to create some of Earth’s most spectacular events. Using breathtaking aerial footage and immersive close-up filming, the series brings viewers closer than ever to the beauty, danger, and raw power of nature. In the first two episodes, the documentary explores the spectacular lightning storms of Arizona, the giant waves of Nazaré, the power of storm clouds, hail, downbursts and tornado-like winds, the ocean forces that build monstrous waves, the cloud ‘tablecloth’ over Table Mountain in Cape Town, and the rare circular rainbows at Victoria Falls. It is a journey through extreme weather, dramatic locations and the hidden natural forces that create some of the most spectacular scenes on Earth.
In the final two episodes, the documentary investigates the immense geological forces that continue to reshape our planet. Scientists and adventurers travel to Guatemala's Volcán de Fuego, one of the most active volcanoes on Earth, capturing spectacular eruptions, rivers of lava, and towering ash clouds from astonishingly close range. Along the way, the series reveals how volcanoes are formed, how tectonic plates trigger earthquakes and tsunamis, and how volcanic activity can even create entirely new islands in the middle of the ocean. The journey then turns to one of nature's most breathtaking displays: the Aurora Borealis. In the frozen landscapes of northern Sweden, scientists uncover how powerful storms on the Sun send streams of charged particles towards Earth, illuminating the night sky with vast curtains of color. Combining stunning footage with cutting-edge research, the documentary explores solar activity, space weather, eclipses, and the remarkable connection between our planet and the forces that originate far beyond its atmosphere.
In the first three episodes of Season 2, the uneasy peace after Rome’s defeat begins to unravel. Arminius suspects the Romans are rebuilding their strength and turns to Marbod, the powerful leader of the Marcomanni, hoping to forge a broader Germanic alliance before Rome can strike again. At the same time, his brother Flavus returns to Germania in Roman service, reopening old wounds and forcing Arminius to confront the family he left behind. Thusnelda takes dangerous risks of her own, infiltrating the Roman camp as tensions rise on both sides. The situation becomes even more explosive when Marbod secretly meets Tiberius in an attempt to secure peace with Rome, while Germanicus questions Flavus’s loyalty and the Romans exploit every division among the tribes. Arminius brings his son Gaius into the village, then turns against Marbod when he discovers the depth of his dealings with Rome, while Thusnelda reacts furiously to the secrets Arminius has kept from her. These opening episodes turn the struggle into a dangerous web of betrayal, family conflict and political ambition, where every alliance could decide the future of Germania.
In the final three episodes of Season 2, the struggle for Germania reaches a breaking point as loyalty, vengeance and political ambition collide. Tiberius demands proof that Marbod truly stands with Rome, while Flavus makes a dangerous proposal to Germanicus. At the same time, the Germanic tribal leaders gather to proclaim Marbod king, hoping unity might finally give them the strength to resist Rome. But the fragile alliance is shattered by tragedy, and Marbod is forced to confront Tiberius directly as trust on both sides collapses. The conflict then accelerates toward open war. Thusnelda and Folkwin undertake a perilous mission, Gaius makes a shocking discovery in the forest, and Segestes offers Tiberius a treacherous bargain. With Roman reinforcements approaching by ship, Arminius and the tribes realize they may have only one chance left: strike the Roman camp before a new legion arrives. The season closes with betrayal, sacrifice and a desperate battle for freedom, as every decision threatens to determine whether the Germanic tribes remain divided or finally stand together against Rome.
