Aztec Massacre

   2008    History    HD
A mass grave at Zultepec, Mexico, containing more than 400 mutilated skeletons forces archaeologists to reconsider one of the most familiar stories of the Spanish conquest. Led by Aztec specialist Elizabeth Baquedano, the investigation follows forensic clues hidden in skulls, bones and artifacts to identify the victims and reconstruct what happened. Some remains prove to be European, including women, while Spanish-made iron objects and evidence of horses link the dead directly to the conquistadors who entered Mexico in the early sixteenth century.
The evidence reveals a far more violent confrontation than the traditional image of an easy Spanish victory. Captured Spaniards and members of their entourage appear to have been imprisoned, ritually sacrificed, dismembered and, in some cases, consumed as part of ceremonial practices. By combining archaeology, forensic anthropology and Aztec codices, the documentary shows that indigenous resistance to the conquistadors could be organized, successful and terrifyingly effective, transforming Zultepec into crucial physical evidence of a conflict that history had long oversimplified.

Pizarro: The Blood Of The Sun-God

   2017    History    HD
In 1532, Francisco de Pizarro led fewer than two hundred men into the heart of the Inca Empire and brought a civilization of millions to its knees. What drove this man—from humble beginnings in Spain—to defy impossible odds and confront Atahualpa’s army of 30,000 warriors? Through striking reenactments and expert insight, the film explores how faith, greed, and unyielding ambition collided in one of history’s most shocking encounters, forever changing the fate of two worlds.
Beyond the conquest, it delves into the man himself—visionary and tyrant, believer and betrayer—revealing how his thirst for glory became a symbol of both human courage and moral ruin. Set against the breathtaking landscapes of the Andes, this journey exposes the hidden cost of empire: the blood spilled, the cultures erased, and the myths that still echo through the ruins of Cuzco.

One hundred years after Columbus' arrival in the Caribbean, Spanish Conquistadors and Priests, push into North America in search of gold and to spread Catholicism. With the arrival of the British in North America, the two colonial systems produce contrasting societies that come in conflict as Manifest Destiny pushes the U.S into the Mexican territories of the South West. As the Gold Rush floods California with settlers, complex and vital communities are overwhelmed. The elites, including Mariano Vallejo and Apolinaria Lorenzana lose their land. Mexicans and Mexican Americans are treated as second-class citizens, facing discrimination and racial violence. Resistance to this injustice appears in New Mexico as Las Gorras Blancas (The White Caps), burn Anglo ranches and cut through barbed wire to prevent Anglo encroachment. At the same time, New Mexicans manage to transform themselves through education, managing to preserve Hispano culture in New Mexico and their standing in the midst of an era of conquest and dispossession.
